Call to save Ganga

JUSTICE GIRIDHAR Malviya called for steps to save the Ganga from pollution. He was speaking at the inauguration of the fifth branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad at Allahabad, named ?Triveni Shakha?. He underlined the importance of the Ganga for all, and laid stress on measures to restore its purity and the speed of flow. The virtues of the Ganga, due to its oxygen content, were proved throughout the world, he said. He said an analysis of Ganga water by Banaras Hindu University scientists had proved that it was highly polluted.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the fifth branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad at Allahabad, named ‘Triveni Shakha’.

He underlined the importance of the Ganga for all, and laid stress on measures to restore its purity and the speed of flow. The virtues of the Ganga, due to its oxygen content, were proved throughout the world, he said.

He said an analysis of Ganga water by Banaras Hindu University scientists had proved that it was highly polluted.

Therefore, it was the duty of the Bharat Vikas Parishad to make efforts at every level to save the river.

He alleged that effluent treatment plants at Kanpur tanneries were not working and, as a result, effluents were flowing into the Ganga.

Besides the chief guest, guest of honour Harish Jindal garlanded portraits of ‘Bharat Mata’ and Swami Vivekananda.

Regional general secretary Navin Chandra Agarwal administered oath to 30 new members. State president Shiv Nandan Gupta administered the oath to new office bearers namely president Dr GK Verma, secretary Shyamji Agarwal and treasurer Krishna Murari Goel. Vande Matram was sung by Sarita Agarwal, Manju Agarwal and Uma Agarwal.

Triveni Shakha founder Shyam Sundar Agarwal said the Bharat Vikas Parishad had 1150 branches all over the country and 22 branches abroad. Conducting the function, State general secretary Navin Chandra Agarwal spoke about activities of the Parishad and asked office bearers to pay attention towards their duties.

State patron RP Goel’s message was also presented.

Mementos to the chief guest were presented by Shyam Sunder Agarwal, to the guest of honour by president Dr GK Verma, to the State president by Om Prakash Gupta and to State general secretary by Alok Rastogi.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Puneet Verma.
