Not keen to raise the "communal card" in these elections unlike the last assembly polls, BJP preferred to use services of star campaigners Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon and Nitish Bharadwaj, besides senior leaders Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi and Ramdas Agarwal.

Opposition Congress also garnered some "star-power" by getting actress Celina Jaitley and Asrani to campaign for it while veteran leaders Manmohan Singh and party supporter Sam Pitroda also chipped in for campaigning.

Though the main contest is between BJP and Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded 19 candidates while other parties, including JD(U), have fielded 26 candidates; 65 independents are also in the fray.
