CBI probe into Abhishek murder case

Acting on the request by the victim's father, CBI is investigating the mysterious death of the BIT student, who drowned last year.

A team of the special investigation cell of the Delhi branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) visited the Department of Forensic Medicine at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to conduct inquiry into the Abhishek Mishra death case.

Abhishek, a seventh semester Computer Science and Engineering student of the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, drowned in Dassam Falls under mysterious circumstances on December 8, 2006.

DSP Baliram Prabhakar of the agency, who is the investigation officer of the case, met the head of the department, Dr Tulsi Mahto and other subordinate doctors, including Dr C.S. Prasad, and made enquiries on Abhishek's post-mortem report. The post-mortem on Abhishek's body was conducted by Dr Prasad.

The CBI lodged a case in this connection following a directive regarding the same from the Jharkhand High Court on February 2. Earlier, the Jharkhand High Court had handed over the case to the CBI for investigation taking suo motu cognisance of a letter written by Dr Subhash Chandra Mishra, father of Abhishek, to the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
