A petition seeking a CBI probe into the January 7 fatal attack on a sub-inspector in Tirunelveli district and alleged inaction by two Tamil Nadu ministers and police officials to provide him timely help was filed in the Madras High Court today.
In his petition, 76-year-old social activist K R Ramaswamy sought a direction to CBI to also inquire into the
alleged inordinate delay in providing medical aid to the sub-inspector and removing him to a hospital, the silence of
the state government on "the negligent attitude of the ministers and police officials".
He also sought a direction to the agency to file a comprehensive report before the court as early as possible.
The petitioner said that according to video clippings aired on TV channels, police officials were seen discussing
with the ministers and showing no sign of hurry or anxiety while onlookers also merely watched the bleeding
sub-inspector, attacked by a gang, was battling for his life and crying for help.
This is the second petition filed in the court in connection with the murder. An advocate in a petitioned filed
yesterday had sought a "fact finding commission" into the brutal killing and action against officials for alleged
apathy.
