Ceasefire panel holds talks with Jana Reddy

The Ceasefire Monitoring Committee said they had informed the Govt of their readiness to join the efforts to break the deadlock.

In a bid to resolve the deadlock following the announcement of Naxalite groups withdrawing from peace talks in Andhra Pradesh, the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee on Tuesday held negotiations with state Home Minister K Jana Reddy in Hyderabad.

Emerging from about two hour's meeting with Reddy at his chamber at secretariat, the committee members told reporters that they had informed the government of their readiness to join the efforts to break the deadlock.

"There was a need to maintain restraint by both sides as mistakes had been committed both by the government as well as Naxalite side," they said.

The government has submitted a letter to the committee asking it to enquire about three incidents involving Naxals, which had occurred in November, the members said.

But the committee members suggested it was too late to enquire into these incidents, which occurred on November 24 and 25 in Mehboobnagar, Karimnagar and Kadapa districts and asked the government to incorporate latest incidents, which led caused the tensions to escalate prompting extremists to withdraw from peace talks, K Srinivas Reddy, one of the committee members and secretary general of Indian Journalists Union said.

The Home Minister said he would consider the issue and come out with suitable suggestion in one or two days.
