Constable M Minj of the 8th battalion of the CAF opened indiscriminate fire at Kondagaon police station complex in Maoist-affected Bastar, about 250 km south of Raipur.
"It's a shocking incident. Platoon commander Tikaram Laria and head constable Mehtab Singh Thakur succumbed to bullet injuries while another cop, Sanjay Singh, was injured and was rushed to hospital," Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) TJ Longkumer told IANS.
The injured policeman was first taken to a local primary health centre and then referred to Jagdalpur, the Bastar district headquarters, in a critical condition.
Officials at the police headquarters here said that Minj ran away from the site after firing and then hung himself. Initial probe indicated that the policeman was frustrated over denial of leave for a long time.
