Chhattisgarh govt official's illegal wealth goes upto Rs 5.5 cr

Chhattisgarh's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has found Rs 87 lakh in the bank accounts of a senior Government official booked in disproportionate assets case, officials said.

With this, the total value of unaccounted wealth allegedly accumulated by M D Diwan, deputy secretary in Water Resources Department, has gone up to Rs 5.5 crore, they said.

D M Awasthi, additional director general (ACB), said Rs 86.95 lakh was found in 24 of the 28 bank accounts held by Diwan, who joined the service as a naib tehsildar (a junior revenue official) in 1977.

On January 22, ACB had raided Diwan's residences in Raipur, Janggir-Champa and Raigarh districts and claimed to have unearthed illegal assets worth Rs 4.72 crore allegedly belonging to the deputy Secretary.
