Ganesan, a popular film and TV actor, is a sitting MLA and was a minister for a while.

Devan had recently floated his own political outfit called Kerala People's Party (KPP). Ater filing nomination the actor told reporters that he was contesting the election on the plank of the development of the state as, he said, the present political system had utterly failed to deliver the goods.

''There is no political party in the state trying for the overall development of the state'', he said.

A.C.Moideen, CPM candidate for the Wadakkancherry Assembly by election, also filed his nomination papers On Wednesday.
