Nearly 50 Gurgaon residents were out on the streets to participate in a marathon organised by the Running and Living organisation on Saturday.
The event featured a 5-km and 10-km run at Leisure Valley.
Rahul S Varghese had started the group three years ago to encourage people to get out of their homes and follow a healthier lifestyle.
"Many people don't run due to age or other reasons. But it's a good exercise and has many benefits," said Varghese.
Some people joined the club to lose weight, while some just for the passion of running. For example, Shivam Goyal from Delhi went from 140kg to 68kg in a year. Anand from Chennai, who is in his 30s, managed to overcome acute asthma.
Children, too, have benefited.
“Kids often never come out of their rooms, but this club has got my son interested in running. Now he runs along with me. We share a common passion,” said Ajmer Lohan, a resident. The club organises marathons at least once a month in Gurgaon. The next run will be held at the Jim Corbett National Park on April 23.
