Civic poll picks LMC pocket!

THE HOUSE tax collection of Lucknow Municipal Corporation has recorded a dramatic fall in the month of October.

The municipal corporation officials claim that the tax collection has received a jolt due to the ongoing election season. Last year during the first 14 days of October, the tax recovery of Lucknow Municipal Corporation was Rs 2.14 crore, which has dramatically drop to Rs 24 lakh this year.
The LMC officials blame elections for the heavy downfall in the earnings of LMC.
“This is the best revenue earning season for the LMC, which is going waste, as 250 staff members have been deployed on election duty. There is no one to go out for tax recovery in the peak season it seems that the LMC will celebrate Diwali in darkness,” said an official of LMC tax department.
Additional Municipal Commissioner AC Sinha expressed his concern over the steep decline in the revenue realization of LMC.
“We are a self-earning department, we have to meet our expenses by our sources, which have been reduced by the government, after the octroi, now we are deprived of tehbazari, which used to fetch us good income.
Now with the decline in the tax realization the situation becomes worrying. We will have to do something dramatic to stage a recovery,” said Sinha.
For that municipal chief has already called a meeting and discussed the financial situation of LMC. “We have made plans to increase the recovery after the elections are over. We would be aggressive in tax collection. There would be special drives, notices issued, ceilings and legal actions against the big defaulters,” said Sinha.
The LMC officials are now preparing the list of defaulters in all the six zones. The notices are being prepared, but they are not posted because any one can take the advantage of the notices and take political mileage in the poll.
