A Class-4 woman employee has been forced to do night duty as a guard at Government High School (GHS), Bagan, in Kullu district in violation of the laid down rules.
Sneh Lata, a Class-4 employee, who joined GHS, Bagan, just two months ago, has been facing a tough time, as she had been asked to do night duty by the school authorities.
Talking to HT, she said despite bad health condition, she had already served as guard for seven days in night hours at the school.
She alleged that now the school authorities had again asked her to do night duty on the school premises, but she had refused to do so and she had been facing the ire of the school head.
She said she had requested deputy director of higher education, Kullu, Jagdeesh Chand to look into the matter.
School headmistress Nishi Upadhyay said she had no other option, because the male employee was on leave.
She said, “I have requested the deputy director and higher education, Kullu, and the director education, Shimla, to provide a male employee for duty during night hours as the woman employee has refused to follow the order.”
Deputy director, higher education, Kullu, Jagdeesh Chand said a woman employee could not be deployed on night duty and they had already circulated the orders in all schools of the district.
He said there was shortage of staff in educational institutions, which had aggravated the situation in the district.
Himachal Pradesh Women Commission chairman Dhaneshawari Thakur said, “It is a matter of regret that a woman employee was deputed on night duty. I will ask the education authority to take this matter seriously.”
