A CLASH with ticket checking squad and then an accident on Memu train at Amausi Railway Station ended up in violence and arson at Manaknagar railway station.

Daily commuters vandalised the train they were travelling on and set the guard cab on fire on Monday morning.

The incident started soon after a ticket checking squad started checking tickets of passengers on 4 LKM Memu train that chugged off from Kanpur at 9.30 am.

While checking, some passengers had an altercation with the squad members and RPF personnel. The train was near Amausi station when all this happened.

When the train left Amausi for Manaknagar, a passenger, Sonu who was standing on the door peeped out and hit a pole by the tracks and fell off the train. His associates felt that someone threw  him out. This led to a clash with the squad. On reaching Manaknagar, the word spread about the clash with squad and Sonu’s fall, and passengers started getting angry. The anger turned into vandalism and they damaged the train.

They set the Guard Cab on fire. Before setting it on fire, the passengers bashed up an RPF constable. The situation led to panic on the station.

Soon, the RPF and police personnel reached the spot. SSP Lucknow GK Goswami too rushed to the spot. On noticing police approaching, the miscreants stopped vandalism and dispersed.

Sonu was sent to Trauma Centre while the injured RPF constable was given first aid at Railway Hospital. Sonu’s condition continues to be serious. While guard on the train too was sent home after first aid.
