Congress on Thursday assailed Mulayam Singh Yadav Government's move of taking away 79 posts, including Chairmanship of Film Development Council headed by Jaya Bachchan facing disqualification from Rajya Sabha, from the list of offices of profit.

"On moral grounds, it is not appropriate. What was the hurry?" party spokesman Rajeev Shukla said noting that the President has already been consulting legal experts on the disqualification matter.

Shukla also had a dig at the Yadav Government as he quipped "those in UP, who have turned politics into an office of profit, are now being exempted from holding on to offices of profit".

He was reacting to reports from Lucknow that the Yadav Government pushed through a Bill in the Assembly amid stiff opposition from BSP and BJP.

To a question concerning BJP's moves to seek disqualification of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for being NAC Chairperson and head of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, he said that Gandhi holds no office of profit.

At the same time, Shukla complimented the Chief Minister for his statement hailing Gandhi's statement against playing of politics over the terror attack at Varanasi.
