Cong-led front would return to power: Sayeed
Former Deputy Speaker PM Sayeed expressed confidence that a Cong-led alliance would form govt at the Centre.
Deputy Speaker of the dissolved Lok Sabha and Congress candidate from Lakshadweep Parliamentary constituency, PM Sayeed on Tuesday expressed confidence that a Congress-led alliance would form government at the Centre.
Addressing a meet-the-press programme of the Ernakulam Press Club here, Sayeed, who holds the unique distinction of representing the Lakshdweep constituency for 10 consecutive terms, said the islanders were with Congress and he was confident of achieving a record victory this time also.
With the Congress leading a secular front, the confidence of the minority and Dalit communities had increased, he said, adding with the support of all secular forces, Congress would return back to power with all strength.
Reiterating that the island had achieved all-round development during Congress rule, he said there was a stagnation in development during the last six years under the NDA rule at the Centre.
He said during the last one month he was intensively campaigning in the island and the response from the people was overwhelming. "I am sure of achieving victory and break my record," he said.
On the rival candidates in the fray from the constituency, he said "they have no political background as they had been in government service. People know me and my contribution in the development of the island."
