In a seminar organised by the Forum here on Wednesday, prominent members of the Muslim community accused the Congress Party of the Babri Masjid dispute and unlocking the disputed site despite the case being pending in the court.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of the Record Committee, once associated with the Babri Masjid Action Committee, Abdul Barqat Nazmi, said, “Despite the case (no. 12/1961) related to Ram Janmbhoomi and Babri Masjid pending at the Lucknow Bench of High Court, the then district judge of Faizabad gave orders for the opening of lock of Babri Masjid on February 1, 1986.”
The Rajiv Gandhi-led Congress government was also held responsible for Shilannyas of plot number 586 on November 9, 1989.
“The then Congress government misled the nation and violated the Constitution of the country and judiciary,” Nazmi asserted.
Congress party was also held responsible for the communal flare-up in the country after the opening of the lock of the Babri Masjid.
Delegates present on the occasion also demanded regular hearing of the Babri Masjid case for its speedy disposal.
Other prominent persons present on the occasion included Dr Mustafa Tariq, Bahar Ahmad and Irfan Ansari among others.
