Congress confident of emerging as largest party in Mizoram

"Our party is expected to get more than 15 seats in the 40-member house which went to polls yesterday," Ahmed told PTI at Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.

In case, "Congress does not get more than 15 seats in Mizoram then we are open to alliances with parties other than the BJP and secular force to form the government," he said.

The former MP, who toured all the eight districts of Mizoram for poll campaign said the people were frustrated with the Mizoram National Front Government and were looking forward to an alternative with the Congress.

Ahmed said there was spontaneous response to the Congress President Sonia Gandhi's two rallies in the state which is an indicator that the Congress might come back to power.

The AICC leader alleged that the BJP "was playing a nasty game by having unholy nexus with militants by toppling democratically elected governments as proved in Arunachal Pradesh."

He promised that if voted back to power, the Congress would implement a number of development projects to benefit the people.
