Congress writes to EC, seeks protection for Nagma

The Congress party has asked the Election Commission of India to provide more security to Nagma, the party's candidate in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut constituency, reports said on Wednesday.

The Congress party has asked the Election Commission of India to provide more security to Nagma, the party's candidate in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut constituency, reports said on Wednesday.

According to reports, Nagma has alleged she has been facing harassment from opposition parties and unruly crowd while campaigning in Meerut.

Congress has said the "crowds she is attracting require special attention of the local administration to maintain order" in its letter to the EC.

She was was allegedly manhandled during a party meeting last week in Meerut. She was surrounded by a mob and was seen slapping a man who allegedly groped her.

The actor-turned-politician later said that if such an incident happens again, she would never return to Meerut.

There were reports she was manhandled by Congress legislator Gajraj Singh, who grabbed her face and allegedly kissed her at an event. In the incident, which was caught on camera, Nagma was seen removing his hand and walking off.

No action was taken against the Congress leader and Nagma had denied the incident.
