SP Madhukumar Babu today said that all constables and head constables would receive one day off every fortnight, though it would not be possible to give them day offs every week.

He gave this assurance at the last Police Darbar presided over by him at DRP Lines today. The assurance comes after DGP S K Das said at a press conference recently that he believed in giving weekly offs to policemen and told the SPs that all they had to do was to plan it properly.

Addressing the men, he said that with only a few hours left for the New Year, we have to set new targets for the year ahead. He added further that if they took action against miscreants then they would be able to provide much relief to the public at large.

He said if any person comes to lodge a complaint then it should be registered and attended to. Efforts should then be made to redress the problem within two days, the SP said.

He said he never likes to suspend a policeman, and reminded them that he has given big rewards for good work and exhorted everyone to work diligently. The policemen present promised that they would not fail the SP in discharging their duties.

The SP also heard the grievances of the rank and file present there. At first not many were willing to talk since most of the CSPs and TIs were present at the meeting. They, finally, expressed their views openly when the SP told the CSPs and TIs to leave.

Most of the complaints were pertaining to lack of proper housing, favouritism in allotting duties by their superiors and in also allotting new work to them just before their duty ends. The SP assured that he would ensure that no office gives a new task just before their duty ends.

He also encouraged them to buy two wheelers and said the department would provide loans as also for the purchase of mobile phones.
