Meanwhile, anxious relatives of the victim are living in fear that the police could kill him in a fake encounter.
The victim identified as Virendra Singh son of Siyaram has been residing here in the Krishna compound under the Fazalganj police station. Originally he is a resident of Mudhaul village in Farukhabad district.
Talking to Hindustan Times, victim’s wife Kamlesh, said, “I have not slept ever since my husband was picked up by the police on March 1. In all likelihood my husband would be killed in a fake encounter.” She urged the senior police officials to conduct an unbiased inquiry into the arrest of her husband.
Victim’s brother, who is a constable, after hard efforts was able to meet Virendra for one minute only at the Unnao jail. But, he had to leave the jail premises on the advice of his fellow colleagues that if the higher authorities came to know about his discreet meeting, he would face the music.
Fed up with attitude of the police department, the constable and his sister-in-law Kamlesh wrote letters to the Chief Minister, the DGP and the Human Rights Commission seeking their intervention in the mater.
However, when the Superintendent of Police, Unnao Alok Singh was queried about the case, he said, “I have joined the duty on March 2 and this matter has not come to my notice, but I will certainly look into this matter.”
