THE DISTRICT police have been equipped with the latest technology and weapons to combat crime. The equipment received at the district police office include night vision devices, SS binoculars, digital cameras, video cameras, bullet-proof jackets, AK 47s, carbines, pistols, computers etc.

Senior superintendent of police Raja Srivastav said Gorakhpur lay en route to Bihar and Nepal and was a crime-prone zone. Therefore, it was the need of the hour to equip the police force with the latest equipment, which the police had demanded to go after criminals, he added.

He also said suits to be worn while defusing bombs had been received. Besides, the police had also got a metal detector. Car remote tool kits, too, had been received to search for bombs in vehicles. He has directed the police station incharges to send a proposal for installation of computers in their respective police stations. These computers will be linked with a master computer at the SSP’s office which will pave the way for an information network
