Dinesh Sharma was on Thursday produced in court, which sent him to five-day police remand.

Following a petition filed by the Association of Victims of the Uphaar Tragedy, the High Court had in May ordered the police to file a fresh FIR in the Uphaar case to probe the destruction of evidence.

A Special Investigation Team of the EOW was constituted to investigate the case.

The court had also ordered that an officer not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police should inquire and submit a status report in the court.

Sharma was dismissed in 2004 after an inquiry found that he "tampered with many documents and was responsible for disappearance of some of them".
