The incident came to light on Friday. The local police did not initiate any action in the matter despite knowing about the case several days back. The mother-daughter duo was rescued following a strong protest from their other relatives and local residents. SSP Ashutosh Pandey later intervened into the matter and six accused including the doctor were arrested.

Inmates of house number C-1575, Rajajipuram Colony are Wasiha Khan (65) and her daughter Amrina Fatima Khan (30). On March 29, Wasiha’s sister Safia Rizvi, alias Sabiha (62) barged into the house along with a psychiatrist and two others. While Sabiha and others overpowered Wasiha and Amrina, the doctor administered three injections to the mother-daughter duo.

Soon after being injected, the women fell unconscious and were carried in an ambulance. As they regained consciousness, they found themselves in a ward of Noor Manzil Hospital. Though they shouted that they were not mentally retarded, Dr Hemant Naidu (absconding) allegedly forced them to stay in the hospital.

After knowing about the incident, Wasiha’s other relatives and a few of her neighbours reached the Talkatora police station on April 6. Initially, the police ignored the complaint but later they went to the hospital. When enquired about the report by the police, the doctors showed it.

While Amrina’s report stated that she was absolutely normal her mother’s report stated that there was no need to continue the treatment. However, the police did not initiate any effort to take mother-daughter back to their home. The cops returned to the police station that day.

After losing hope, Wasiha’s kin and local residents reached the hospital and forcibly took them back to their home. They later informed the SSP who got Sabiha, Mujammil, Devendra Singh Kohli, Manoj Srivastava, Pankaj Singh and Dr Ashutosh of the hospital arrested in the case.

Amrina, post-graduate in MSc and pursuing her MA from Kanpur University, said that her father K Khan was retired as DGM from Telecom Department. They had property worth Rs 60 lakh in Rajajipuram and others on La Touche Road in the city and in Lakhimpur district also.

She further said that Sabiha wanted to grab their property for which she hatched the plan.
