Here's how to create a great first impression.

1 Dress appropriately: Ensure that you are dressed and groomed as per the purpose, place and people in the meeting. Unkempt hair, body odour and overall bad grooming kill the chances of creating a positive impression right away.

2 Smiling works: You are not completely dressed until you wear a smile. A smile communicates that you are happy to see the other person and nothing can replace what it communicates.

3 A handshake is integral: Take the initiative to shake hands as it shows confidence. Introduce yourself and then extend your hand. Give a firm but not too firm handshake while pumping the hand 2-3 times.

4 Make eye contact: Proper eye contact helps you connect with the others during any interaction and must be done during the initial 3-30 seconds for a positive impact.

5 Be loud and clear: The first few things you say about yourself are very important. Talk in a clear and loud enough voice, stay cheerful and ensure that your introduction sends the message that you’re positive and passionate about what you do.
