A Central Reserve Police Force jawan got seriously injured when he allegedly shot himself with a service rifle in his unit in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jawan identified as constable Manoj Kumar, 31, son of Dharam Chand, resident of Charkhi Dadri, district Bhawani, Odisha yesterday shot himself with the service rifle of his colleague in his unit in Udhampur district," police sources here on Wednesday said.
They said the jawan was upset for the past some time due to his personal problems and was also undergoing a treatment.
"Yesterday when his colleague went for lunch, he took his Ak-47 rifle and shot himself," police said adding that panic gripped the unit and the jawans rushed to the barrack and found jawan in a pool of blood.
He was immediately shifted to the Udhampur hospital from where he was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
"He was operated upon in the hospital and his condition was stated to be out of danger," police added.
