UNDER A special campaign launched by the Commercial Tax department for recovery of dues, confiscated property of Surya Agro Oils has been auctioned for Rs 8.98 crore by the Commercial Tax, Division-II, Bhopal.

Initially, Rs 9. 96 crore dues was to be recovered from the aforesaid unit. The special campaign has been launched by the commercial tax department from November 1, 2006 in the State for recovery of dues.

Directives have been issued to the department officials by principal secretary G P Singhal and commercial tax department commissioner P K Das to initiate strict action against defaulters.

In this context, action was initiated by divisional deputy commissioner P S Janoria for the confiscation of the Salamatpur located factory of Surya Agro Oils to recover dues payable from 1988 to 2003-04.

Further, the Madhya Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation is also taking action against the company for recovery.

Assistant commissioner S D Richariya and commercial tax officer P C Jain of Circle 5 conducted the auction process on January 11 and 17.

The property was sold out at the final bid of Rs 8.98 crore to Mansoor Ahmed of Mansoor Traders. The purchaser has already deposited 25 per cent of the bid amount.

Apart from the auction sum, an amount of Rs 1 crore approximately would be recovered by the government from registration.

According to the department’s release, this amount is the biggest-ever recovery through auction in the history of the commercial tax department.

The principal secretary and commercial tax commissioner have issued instructions to initiate strict action in all cases relating to dues exceeding Rs 10 lakh up to February 15, 2007 to recover maximum amount in the current fiscal year.
