Inaugurating the four-day cultural fest, Antaragni-2006, here at the Institute this evening, he said that for a fuller personality love for culture and expressing cultural skills through performance were needed. “Cultural expressions not only bring social units together but also strengthen communal harmony in the society,” he said.

He said that students were to be praised for their efforts in keeping the tradition of cultural festival initiated several years ago by their predecessors. He said that participating in cultural activities even once in a year helped one to feel relaxed.” He suggested that the participants should go for innovative cultural performances to enthrall themselves and others alike.

Soon after the inaugural session, noted dancer Astad Daboo captivated the august gathering with his performance which was followed by Mohan Veena recital by Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Later, a renowned mimicry artist also enthralled the gathering.

Earlier, the preliminary session of the dance competition for Indian Classical, folk, group, solo and duet dances was held. Students participated in the competitions in attractive attires and also performed amid live music. The institute was seen humming with cultural activities through out the day amidst democratic style as each student and members of the festival committee and the Students Gymkhana enjoyed equal rights while extending suggestions to the members responsible for finalising the arrangements.

In matter of discipline, they also sought help of the chairman of the festival. Recently, the norms for the Disco in the open area in the institute were decided by holding a joint meeting of the student’s representatives and the chairman of the festival, Dr Prawal Sinha. The issues were amicably settled and the norms were fixed to avoid any nuisance of any kind.

According to Sinha, the event was basically designed by the students and they have even generated fund for it. They have made elaborate programmes. We simply supervised and advised them whenever our advice was needed. “In fact, we want to give them training in socialisation. We also want them to learn the management side of their responsibility towards the society in enriching it with cultural expositions,” he said .
