Curfew relaxed in Jabalpur for 18 hrs

JABALPUR DISTRICT administration relaxed curfew for 18 hours from 6 am on Tuesday in the six police stations areas where the restriction has been imposed since January 25 in the wake of tension in the city following tearing of religious posters put up by the Jain community on the occasion of Gajarath Samaroh.

JABALPUR DISTRICT administration relaxed curfew for 18 hours from 6 am on Tuesday in the six police stations areas where the restriction has been imposed since January 25 in the wake of tension in the city following tearing of religious posters put up by the Jain community on the occasion of Gajarath Samaroh.

According to the district magistrate Sanjay dubey the decision to relax curfew was taken to facilitate smooth conduct of Muharram festival and the Hindu Sammelan. The prohibitory orders have been relaxed uninterruptedly since 5 am on Monday following vast improvement in the situation, he said. The situation would be reviewed at 11 pm and further decision taken, he said.

Dubey said that the situation in the city was peaceful and no untoward incident reported from any part of the city. Curfew was imposed in the areas of six police stations, Lordganj, Omti, Kotwali, Belbag, Gohalpur and Hanumantal little after Republic Day midnight following tension between members of two communities after religious posters of a community were found torn near Kamani Gate.
