Satyaveer Singh, a Dalit man, was pushed into a kadhai full of boiling oil by his employer, because he was too unwell to work. The severely-burnt corpse was discovered by a fellow worker. The shocking incident took place in Bhartana, 40 km from Etawah, on Friday night.

The deceased’s family registered a case of murder against the employer Anoop Porwal. They also put up a road blockade seeking compensation and his immediate arrest. “The case is being investigated and teams are out to track the accused down,” said DIG range Brij Bhushan.

Satyaveer had been working for Anoop’s besan laddoo-producing factory in Bhartana. As he was unwell, he hadn’t been going to work for the past few weeks. On Friday night, Anup visited Satyaveer, and asked him to pay back the Rs 10,000 advance he had taken. “So bhaiyya went back with him to sort out the matter,” said Satyaveer’s brother Ashok Singh.

On reaching Bhartana, Satyaveer was asked to work or clear his dues. “When he refused (to work), he was beaten up and pushed into the kadhai,” said his father Ram Sharan.
