The accused had allegedly administered an injection to the woman and sprayed some intoxicating substance on the victim’s husband following which both lost consciousness, police said.

On Sunday, police a case was registered against Dr Promod Varshney and compounder Vinay of Kedarnath hospital on the basis of a written complaint submitted by the woman under IPC sections of rape. The woman has been sent for medical examination, police said, adding that both the accused are absconding.

The woman, a native of Hathras, had come to Kedarnath hospital with a complaint of ear ache on Saturday and taken admission under Dr Varshney, who had treated the woman earlier for the same ailment.

The complainant told police that around 3 am, Vinay came to her bed and asked her to accompany him outside the room. When she refused to go sensing something fishy, he allegedly threatened to kill her husband and sprayed some intoxicating substance on him. Then the compounder and Dr Varshney raped the woman and then administered an injection, following which the victim lost consciousness.

She was released from the hospital on Sunday morning. The incident came to light only when the broke down before her husband, who then took her to the Bannadevi police station.

“When police reached Kedarnath hospital for inquiry, the staff denied that the victim was ever admitted to the hospital. They even said that the admission register was missing,” station officer of Bannadevi police station Ravi Tayagi told HT.

“As the staff put up stiff resistance, the accused duo managed to escape,” he said, adding that police have registered a case against the doctor and compounder.
