Long regarded as one of the most gifted Australian cricketers of his generation, Martyn is an attractive right-handed middle-order batsman who is always on the look out to punish bad bowling.

He is a very wristy player with an upright stance and since adapting to the demands of the 50-over game he has become an integral part of the set-up.

Martyn's one-day debut as a 21-year-old was not exactly the glorious introduction to international cricket that he would have hoped for.

He was in and out of the team over the ensuing 12 months and passed 50 only once before being dropped.

His value to the team can be gauged by the fact that he has batted in every position from one to eight. One of the most stylish batsman in the Australian team, he has proved himself equally adept in both Test and one-day cricket.
