Day I of the Formula 1 race didn't cause jams on the Delhi-Noida route because of proper planning by the traffic police. The speed of vehicles, however, on this stretch remained slow.
"We were expecting an additional 60,000 cars on Friday. But the number hovered around 20,000. On the next two days, the numbers will increase," said a traffic police officer.
To avoid any traffic chaos, a total of 164 traffic policemen have been deployed. A check post has been put up at the Yamuna Expressway interchange to regulate and clear the traffic going towards the race circuit. Traffic police have been deployed at the DND flyway, Kalindi Kunj border, on the stretch between Akshardham and Chilla Regulator, Pari Chowk, Film City opening, Shahdara Drain bottleneck, Mahamaya Flyover, service roads and loops near the circuit.
Only those with parking permits are able to take their vehicles till the circuit parking area. For those without these permits, arrangements have been made at a vacant plot in Knowledge Park II and opposite the IIT Roorkee campus.
