CRITICISING THE apathetic attitude of the Samajwadi Party- led State government, former State president of Congress party Jagdambika Pal, demanded that eastern UP should be declared draught-hit. He claimed that though 44 per cent paddy crop was lost due to deficit rain in the region, the State government was squandering funds in highlighting its own achievements.

While talking to mediapersons, Pal claimed that the Union government had provided extra vaccines to carry out anti-Japanese Encephalitis vaccination in different areas but the State government was not sincere about vaccination.

However, he admitted that the government had taken up the issue after strong remarks passed by the Allahabad High Court. He demanded that BRD Medical College should be provided the status of a medical institute as it catered to the medical needs of around six crore population.

Continuing his offensive against the government, Pal said shortage of urea had further aggravated the problems of the farmers and the State government was pursuing step-motherly treatment with the region, diverting 75 per cent of State budget to Saifai, Mainpuri and Kannauj.

Pal accused the State government of misleading people and said cane growers had not yet received their outstanding payment. Power crisis was deplorable and the State was passing through its worst power crisis. He exhorted Congress workers to highlight the failures of the government on various fronts.

In reply to a question, Pal said Mulayam Singh Yadav had paid only lip service to Muslims. Madarasas were not allocated funds and around 1,000 teachers of these madarasas were not getting the salaries for the last five months.
