Decorate room with Rs 500
Browse through the Old mini Janpath market and make your room come alive in less than Rs 500.
After you’ve pampered yourself silly with Janpath’s skirts, chappals and bags, look beyond vanity.

There’s plenty you could do for your room as well. Browse through the Old mini Janpath market and make your room come alive in less than Rs 500.
Mirrorwork, Gujarati embroidery, patchwork cushions and wall-hangings can lend an ethnic touch to your room. “Ethnic cushions with matching bedcovers give you a break from clichéd styles and you can buy them at Janpath for just Rs. 80. One can also pick up lac photo frames that are quite affordable,” says Sheetu Gochwal, a first year student of B.Com (Honours) at the Delhi College of Arts and Commerce.
Incense bottles and candle stands in brass and glass can make your drawing room more interesting.
Shalini Rao picks up funky stuff for her room from Janpath. “For figurines, paintings and ethnic trinkets, Janpath is a one-stop-shop. On an average I wouldn’t mind spending Rs 300 on buying stuff for my room, as I visit the place only once a month. Glass vases, ethnic cushions and paintings in bright colours add vivacity to my room,” says Shalini Rao, a First Year student of B.Com Pass, with DU’s School of Correspondence Studies.
Begin at the entrance and chuck those boring curtains for curtains made of glass and shells. Not only do they look really cool but also add colour to your room. Add a few wind chimes to ring in the good times. A medium-sized chime can be yours for Rs 35 and a large one would cost you Rs 75.
“Along with wind chimes you could also go for dainty earthen bells. The next option to beautify one’s room would be candle stands, available in a hundred varieties,” says Jitika Thukral, a class XII student of St. Anthony’s, Hauz Khas.
Adorn your tabletops with Lac and gilt photo frames in a variety of sizes to capture some memorable moments for posterity. An assortment coloured frames would make a beautiful arrangement. A small frame comes for a cool 25 bucks as the medium sized one costs you Rs. 75 and prices for a large frame begin at Rs. 135.
Stick curtains are available at the Beauty Corner, shop number 64. The chimes can be picked up from Sharma Handicrafts – shop number 6. For the Lac photo frames, head to Tops In, fashion-shop no. 50 at Mini Market, Janpath.
