The stay was granted when Venugopal's counsel sought time to file a rejoinder to the government's reply on a petition by the cardiologist seeking dismissal of the recommendation by the AIIMS body.

The court said the stay order would continue till November 7, when the petition will be taken up for further hearing. The Centre had earlier filed its reply to Venugopal's petition.

Venugopal was dismissed from the post by the AIIMS governing body at a meeting headed by Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, who is also the institute president, on July 5.
