It was a bright, hot morning that greeted the Delhi Ranji probables as the camp went into high gear at the National stadium. It looked like finally, this would be that rare day sans drama for Delhi cricket. Unfortunately, that's not quite what happened.
Anyone's who's been following the happenings in the DDCA's machiavellian world, would be aware that three "coaches" of sorts have been appointed this year. Actually, one coach, Madan Lal, one assistant coach MS Jaggi and cricket advisor Tarak Sinha, who is supposed to act as a "super consultant" to the players.
By all reports, Lal was furious with the arrangement and had made it clear in no uncertain terms to the people concerned and to Sinha (at a Sonnet vs ONGC match on Saturday in Mohan Nagar), that only one of them could coach the boys.
The Sonnet coach did not put in an appearance for the past four days but was there, quietly watching Lal and his squad from the sidelines on Friday morning. At first, an unusually diplomatic Sinha was just sitting around, with one or two Sonnet players (including Ashish Nehra) and a chirpy Ajay Jadeja walking up to him and chatting. Then Gautam Gambhir walked up for a talk, as did Rajat Bhatia, Vijay Dahiya and Amit Bhandari after a while. But the atmosphere was far from casual in one sense.
