The Sunil Kumar Verma (17), a resident of Halsiganj locality was admitted to a private hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Lucknow where he died. Many others suspected dengue patients are under going treatment in different hospitals. Most dengue patients were found in Sahibganj and Betiahata. However, the Municipal Corporation has not yet started fogging to check the mosquito menace that causes the disease.
The open drains in densely populated areas are the breeding grounds for the mosquitoes.
Talking to media persons about the spread of the disease, BSP leader Dr Ashok Srivastav condemned health department and the district administration for their failure to take corrective measures to check the dreaded disease.
Srivastava criticised the State Government for ignoring the district while allocating funds for development. He said despite repeated assurance by chief Minister, no initiative was taken to establish separate research unit in the BRD Medical College.
“The people who have faced dreaded JE fear that the dengue may also grip the district,” he said. Srivastav condemned State Government for not including Gorakhpur in the list of metropolitan city. He said the city having population of 10 lakh should also be included in the list of metropolitan city.
