The massacre of migrant labourers in Assam shows the depravity of the Ulfa cadres.india Updated: Jan 10, 2007 01:16 IST
The massacre of migrant labourers in Assam shows the depravity of the Ulfa cadres. It shows the UPA government’s security policies in a poor light and proves that the government has forgotten the distinction between terrorists and insurgents. Ulfa cadres have neither an ideology nor a cause. It is a violent, criminal group. It has no public support. Terrorists cannot be engaged in dialogue. How many more innocent lives will be lost before the Centre wakes up?
The government should track down the Ulfa leaders responsible for killing migrant daily-wage labourers and take immediate action and not start any dialogue with Ulfa.
Ulfa militants have always been a threat to people. This time they are killing innocent Bihari as well as Hindi-speaking people. The Centre and the state government should ensure the safety of the people who come to the state for their livelihood.

The perpetrators of this crime are psychopaths and no different from those responsible for the Nithari killings or those responsible for massacres in J&K. Civil society must understand that terrorism is not linked with any religion, caste or creed.
There has to be political accountability for what happened in Nithari. Politicians and their families live with so much security that they don’t bother with the problems of ordinary citizens.
