Dhoni has leadership quality: Chappell

Showering praise on stumper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Indian coach Greg Chappell said he had enough potential for improvement if continued to maintain his form.
Addressing a function organised by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association to felicitate Dhoni, the latest pin-up boy of Indian cricket and the local hero, for being the first cricketer from Jharkhand to play for the country, Chappell said Dhoni has positive attitude and plays the game whole-heartedly.
"Dhoni has no false modesty and judges the situation to ably tackle it," Chappell said adding that he had the quality of a good leader and every time he tries to give 100 per cent.
The 24-year old Ranchi born youth was good runner between the wickets and has leadership quality off and on the field, the Indian coach said.
Expressing full confidence on the swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman, Chappell said Dhoni would continue to improve his performance to earn accolades for the country and his home state.
Wishing Dhoni and the team all success, Chappell said he was honoured to be the Indian team coach and present on the felicitation function.
Dhoni, who came to the programme along with almost the entire Indian team including Virendar Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, R P Singh and Irfan Pathan, thanked the team-mates for reposing faith in him during the past 16 months and the opportunities that helped him to reach to this position.
"I will try my best to perform to earn a good name for the country and the state," he said.
Dr J J Irani, director of Tata Sons, handed over to Dhoni a silver bat on the occasion for being the first cricketer from Jharkhand.
Addressing the gathering, Irani, a former BCCI vice-president,said he used stay away from office to watch Dhoni play.
