Digvijay accuses Mayawati of non-utilisation of central funds

Congress leader Digvijay Singh alleges that central funds were spent on "parks and birthdays".

Attacking the Mayawati-led government in Uttar Pradesh, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today alleged that central funds were not being properly utilised and, instead, spent on "parks and birthdays".

"The Rs 55,000 crore grant that the BSP government received from the Central government is being spent on parks and birthdays instead of the state's development," he said, addressing a public meeting at Nagar panchayat ground here as part of the 'Sandesh Yatra'.

The 'Yatra' was launched by Rahul Gandhi on April 14 on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti and is seen as start of the party's campaigning ahead of the assembly polls next year. Singh exuded confidence that the Congress will come to power following the crucial polls. "We will start preparations for this from now onwards."
