The DMK Government has announced ‘special poojas’ in major temples across the state at noon today in view of the 40th death anniversary of the late Dravidian leader and DMK co-founder, C.N. Annadurai. Paying homage to the memory of the dead is nothing new in India but what has stunned political observers and social analysts here is that such a directive should come from the state government that is being ruled by a party that claims to be rooted in ‘rationalism’.
