Dr P Uma Devi honoured

JAWAHARLAL CANCER Hospital Department of Research Head Dr P Uma Devi has been awarded the prestigious Hanns Langendorff Medal for 2006.

She was awarded the medal recently in recognition of her outstanding contribution to radiation biology research. The award ceremony was held at Freiburg Germany during the 1st Langendorff Congress. The award includes a medal engraved with the bust of Professor Hanns Langendorff and a citation.

After receiving the award Dr P Uma Devi gave a lecture on the subject ` Delayed Effects of Foetal Irradiation’. Dr Uma Devi has done extensive research on different aspects of radiation biology.

Her decades of research has led to the development of a herbal drug for reducing the side effects of radiotherapy which is now under clinical trial in cancer patients.
