Women in top Delhi University colleges are queuing up at the Indian Air Force’s doorstep for being recruited as pilots. This pleasantly surprised the authorities, who are contemplating doubling the number of women pilots in the Air Force.

The sudden response by students has surprised principals as well. About 20 women have applied to IAF from St Stephen's College. College Principal Anil Wilson said, “If girls can participate in adventure sports and other activities, why not be an IAF pilot?” Kirori Mal College Principal Bhim Sen agreed.

“Thirty women from my college have applied. The number is expected to increase.” At Miranda House, 15 women have applied. Lady Sri Ram College has registered 10 applicants while Hansraj College has 20.

The criteria for an IAF pilot is a graduate in any subject with physics and maths in Class XII and a height of 162.5 cm.
