The district administration had heaved a sigh of relief after rectifying the anomalies assuming that all was well since 95 per cent of the list had been corrected. However, the facts, which came to light today, present altogether a different picture. Not only the mistakes in the list continue to exist, there number seems to have increased after the revision.

These facts came to the fore during the review meeting attended by additional secretary Virender Kumar and sector officer TK Dutta at the Circuit House here on Monday. ADM city Abrar Ahmad, along with all the election officers, was also present in the meeting.

During the review, an increase of 40 to 50 per cent in the number of voters at over two -dozen booths was found in the new list. Similarly, in several areas the number had gone down by 30 to 40 per cent. Besides in some areas there were no changes at all. EC officials expressed dissatisfaction over these areas and feared that problems could increase after completion of the revision process.

To assess the situation, an EC team would visit such areas and might appoint booth level officials to probe the anomalies. Besides, the district administration has also decided to conduct an inquiry through civil defense wardens to get to the bottom of the matter. Assistant election officer Yati Ram Tripathi said the EC team could conduct surprise inspections of the areas on Tuesday and warned that any irregularities found would be sole responsibility of the booth level officials.
