Originally a meadow used as grazing land, Edgbaston hosted the fourth-ever One-Day International when England beat Australia by two wickets in 1972.

Edgbaston was recognised as a Test venue in 1902 but it hosted only four matches up until 1957, when England played West Indies.

Edgbaston is now a regular on the Test and One-Day International calender.

West Indies captain Brian Lara has happy memories of the Birmingham venue after scoring 501, the highest First Class score of all time, there in 1994.
