Eight bogies of Doon Express derail, 8 injured

At least eight passengers were injured when eight bogies of Howarah Dehradun Express train derailed near Zafarganj railway station in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday afternoon. Officials said the impact was minor as the train was moving at a slower speed.

At least eight passengers were injured when eight bogies of Howarah Dehradun Express train derailed near Zafarganj railway station in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday afternoon. Officials said the impact was minor as the train was moving at a slower speed.

The eight coaches which derailed includes six sleeper and two general compartments. The officials said that the incident happened at around 2:45 pm near Zafarganj railway station between Jaunpur and Faizabad.

“The number of people injured is expected to rise,” the officials said. Train traffic on the route has been disrupted. Teams from Lucknow and Varansi division of Northern Railway have rushed to the spot. Officials said that a team of railway officials from Delhi has been mobilised for additional support.

“Additional coaches and ambulances have been sent from Faizabad to help the stranded passengers,” the officials added.

The Doon Express connects Kolkata to Uttarakhand's capital Dehradun.
