Elegance is the byword here
The first thing that Burmans decorated in the house was bar. The highlight is the stained glass dome by Malvika Tiwari above the bar.
Divya Burman’s passion may be candle making but her good taste shows in her tastefully done up home at E-83, Vasant Vihar. As you enter the second floor where the Burmans reside you are welcomed by happy paintings that Divya bought from Natasha Nanda six years back. The main living room is a virtual treat. “When I shifted here after I got married eight years ago, we lived with my in-laws on the ground floor for two years till the kids came and we needed more space,” says Divya.
The Modern School product Divya and St Columba’s product Amit decided they wanted a home that exuded warmth with a very lived-in feel to it. “The house was built in stages and has knick-knacks collected from all our sojourns from Istanbul to Romania. Like the cocktail glasses in the shape of a naked woman we got on our honeymoon to Phuket,” says Divya.
The bar is probably the highlight of the living room that is beautifully done by decorators Prashant and Uphaar. The glass dome above with a skylight is painted by stained glass painter Malvika Tiwari. “Sometimes when we entertain we light up the whole house with candles and switch on the bar lights,” says Divya.
What stands out in the uncluttered living room are the hand picked paintings of Paresh Maity amd Swapan Bhandari selected by Divya on her various trips to Kolkata. “I like Paresh Maity’s play of colours and his figurative artwork. His watercolours on rice paper are spectacular,” says Divya. The bathrooms are done in Spanish style with masks and glass washbasins and a super wall finish.
While friend Soni Aggarwal did the eclectic finish in green and bronze on the entrance, the drawing room tables are bought from interior decorator Vinny Punj’s factory. “The wooden dining table with straight lines and no carvings that we bought from Priyanka Verma was right up my street. I like no fuss stuff that is understated,” says Divya. The Burmans, with their two children two-year-old Adhiraj and five-year-old Dia, like a home that spells elegance, without being over the top. “A home is a place you want to come back to, so it must be welcoming, and our home is like our nest that is trendy yet warm,” concludes Divya.
