An adult elephant ran amok in the high security New Delhi area, damaging two autorickshaws, as many taxis and the official vehicle of senior traffic police officer.

It took five elephants for over two hours to corner their errant brother, Bhola, before the tusker was taken back to Yamuna Pushta.

At the Yamuna, Bhola, looked overjoyed on seeing water and jumped into it, bathing for nearly an hour and was then taken to its Shakarpur stable.

The Tilak Marg police arrested it’s mahout Tullu, charging him with negligence. It seems the mahout fell asleep after tying Bhola on the roadside at Zakir Hussain Marg.

The elephant freed itself and ran towards an oncoming autorickshaw, prompting its jittery driver to jump out. Bhola damaged the TSR and headed towards Sher Shah Road.

It then damaged another autorickshaw. Its driver, too, jumped out, and raised an alarm as the elephant turned for Mathura Road-Bhairon Marg T point, where it damaged two cabs.

Five mahouts were soon summoned along with their elephants from Yamuna Pushta to subdue Bhola on Mathura Road.
