THE MUCH touted e-Suvidha launched two months ago has turned into more of an ‘asuvidha’ (inconvenience) for LESA and its consumers.

Ever since e-Suvidha took over LESA’s online billing system, there have been problems aplenty and the situation has only worsened in the last one week. Not only the server remained down for most of the time making consumers wait for hours to pay their bills at the online billing centres, the computers too have been printing incorrect bills.

The problem continued on Monday to the extent that at may collection centers, staff were seen depositing the bills manually the way they used to 10 years ago.
LESA general manager AK Singh admitted that problems galore at the online billing centres. “For example, the bill register in the computers was not opening and computers were printing incorrect bills. Besides, monthly consumer data collected by the hand-held billing agencies on 23 October were not getting uploaded on the system,” Singh said.

He said consumers were agitated and quite justifiably. “But, we are trying our level best to see to it that the problem was solved,” he said, adding, “ the e-Suvidha management has called a team of experts from Mumbai to rectify the fault.”

Sources in LESA disclosed that the Dalibagh situated online billing server was too old to remain efficient. The server, they said, was unable to bear the growing consumer data load was in dire need of replacement with a new server.

“Any electronic item stats showing signs of inefficiency after 4-5 years. So is the case with the server which is more than 5 years old,” they pointed out.
