He said, "I wish to condemn in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attacks that occurred in the Indian state of Chattisgarh. There can be no possible defence for the use of indiscriminate weapons such as landmines to kill and maim unarmed civilians. I extend my condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and to the Indian authorities, as well as to all those who have been injured."

Solana added that political claims "can never justify criminal, terrorist acts, which only hurt those they claim to serve". He also stressed that EU and India were united in their common commitment to democracy, pluralism and rule of law. "We shall continue to promote these for all our people through our Strategic Partnership."
