He said collection of data for information was knowledge. “Knowledge is required not only to get a job, but also for an individual and an organisation to excel,” he said.
ISPAT Industries Limited vice-president (Marketing) Rajiv Thakur also outlined the importance of knowledge management. Head of the Management Studies Department at IIT-Roorkee Prof VK Nangia presided over the workshop and discussed research on knowledge management.
Head of the FMS-BHU Prof. HC Chaudhary welcomed the guests. He said the recent management thinking had shifted its focus from external to internal resources of a firm to achieve a sustained competitive advantage. He added that in this new perspective, the capability to manage knowledge was seen as the most significant source of competitive advantage. Almost all the corporates now recognised knowledge management as a long-term strategy, he added. Workshop coordinator Prof PS Tripathi established the theme, while Prof AK Agrawal proposed the vote of thanks.
Later, experts gave lectures on application of knowledge management in the manufacturing, service and government sectors.
